The event was a smash hit! 150 people showed up to support Live Clean Comedy and to raise money for the Holy Grounds Food Pantry. The evening was led by host extraordinaire Steve Marcinowski. Featuring was Clean Getaway’s own Mike Santo. Although it was a stormy night, and the rain was loud, Mike did a great job kicking things off. Finally, Marty Simpson took the stage. As the rain died down, the laughter only grew louder. By the end of the night, the room was roaring! The thunder and rain had turned into loud hilarity. Over all, between ticket sales, and the hard work Calvary Chapel did with a Silent Auction and Raffle, we were able to raise over $1,200.00 for the Food Pantry! God is so Good! Praise the Lord. Through laughter, service and most of all God’s help, we were able to love those right here in a our city, and work at one of the things Jesus has called us to do, love and feed the poor and treat them as if they were Jesus.
I met Marty a few years ago through the CCA (Christian Comedy Association). We grew close through being able to perform together a few times. Marty is a mentor of mine and very much someone I look up to in this industry, not to mention, an incredible performer. His style is unique and one of a kind. We were so glad he could come to Wilmington and share his gift.
A huge thanks first to Marty, who came way way down on his performance fee to come be a part of the event, allowing us to give more to the Pantry. A huge thanks to Mike Santo, who took a very large financial risk in order to help make things happen. A huge thanks to Steve Marcinowski, who stepped in to host when I got called to perform elsewhere. And finally, a great great great big thanks to Barbara Vieira, Pastor Clay Ritter and Calvary Chapel, who took a chance in allowing us to put on the event. Their facility and volunteers were amazing. Thank you for all the work you do to feed those in our community through your hard work and Love for Jesus Christ.
